U.S. Golf Croquet Players Are Ready for Nationals

An elite field of sixteen players will travel to the North Carolina high country for the USCA’s 2013 Golf Croquet National Championship to be held at the Lake Toxaway Country Club in Lake Toxaway, NC. Top seed will be Stephen Mulliner of England, currently ranked seventh in the world, and winner of both the British and European 2013 Golf Croquet championships. Top-ranked American player Ben Rothman will be looking to repeat his 2012 titles in both singles and doubles, while former U.S. champions Rich Lamm, Sherif Abdelwahab (2012 doubles champion with Rothman), Leo McBride (of Canada), and Jeff Soo will also be contending. The event runs September 22-25 and will be the 15th edition. The event was first held in 1999 with Abdelwahab claiming that first title.

Several of the above players will also take part in the fourth annual Toxaway Mountain Challenge, a Golf Croquet exhibition on September 21. This joint venture between the Lake Toxaway Country Club and the USCA helps promote Golf Croquet in the western NC mountains, which has seen a tremendous growth of clubs and players in the past few years.

The tournament will be Championship Flight only in both singles and doubles. Additional venues such as Burlingame and Sapphire Valley country clubs and Cedar Creek Racquet Club will be used during block play.
