Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community, a leader in the senior living industry, holds a grand opening ceremony to debut the new Anderson Croquet Court and Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Anderson Court Pavilion with remarks from Bishop Gadsden President/CEO Sarah Tipton and retired President/CEO Bill Trawick, as well as residents who were instrumental in making croquet at Bishop Gadsden a reality. There will also be a blessing of the court and pavilion by Fr. Dow Sanderson.
Following the dedication, USCA croquet professionals, including Michael Albert, who is integral in the implementation of croquet in the South Carolina, will give attendees a demonstration on the game of croquet as a precursor to the afternoon clinics. The game of croquet is increasing in popularity, and Bishop Gadsden has one of the first successful programs in the Charleston area. This implementation of a first-class croquet court and pavilion provides a new venue for Bishop Gadsden residents, as well as croquet players and enthusiasts alike. This addition to the community provides a unique opportunity for Bishop Gadsden to offer croquet and social activities surrounding such, as well as expand the game into the local community.
The court and new pavilion will open doors to the outside community to allow for croquet tournament play and exhibitions for local croquet teams. The Anderson Court and Pavilion was resident-funded and is residentmaintained through the Bishop Gadsden Croquet Committee. “We are thrilled to be able to bring a recognized croquet program to Bishop Gadsden,” said President/CEO Sarah Tipton. “Having the opportunity for our residents, as well as outside croquet groups, has been exciting for us. Our residents are passionate about the sport. We are enthusiastic that we have these new facilities, thanks to the generosity of many that will inspire others to enjoy the game, for many years to come.”
