The 2024 WCF GC World Championship delivered another entertaining day as play shifted from the round of 16 to the quarterfinals at the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club near Hartfield, Va. Robert Fletcher (AUS), Euan Burridge (ENG), Khaled Kamel (EGY) and Blake Fields (USA) all advanced to the semifinal round with Kamel and Fields needing fifth games to advance.

The allocation date for the 2024 WCF GC World Championship Qualifying Tournament to be held at the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club in Hartfield, Virginia, October 13-16, was July 24, 2024. As of that date, the event was over-subscribed: the event capacity is 40, and 62 apparently eligible entries have been received.

Golf Croquet Celebrates 90 Years
For long-time croquet enthusiasts, golf croquet seems like a relatively new sensation and certainly, the rapid world growth that tracks back roughly to the start of this century creates an aura of a game that is brand new. However, Chris Williams, Archivist for Croquet England, says the birth of the popular croquet version was documented in an issue of the Croquet Gazette that says the rules for Golf Croquet had been approved and were to “be embodied in the Laws of Croquet and Regulations for Official Tournaments and C.A. Year Book for 1934” during a Council meeting held on December 14, 1933.
