Move strengthens Croquet Network’s effort to build a global reporting team FOR THE SPORT
Croquet Network is pleased to announce that John Miles, President of the North Toronto Croquet Club, has joined the publication as its Canadian correspondent.
Miles leads one of Canada’s most prominent croquet institutions. The North Toronto Croquet Club, established in 1912 as a lawn bowling club, added croquet in 1997 and has operated exclusively as a croquet club for the past two decades. Today, it is the second-largest croquet club in Canada and a key hub for both competitive and social play.
Miles and his wife, Ronnie, joined the club in 2018 and quickly immersed themselves in the sport. Within a year, Miles was invited to join the club’s Board of Directors. He became Executive Vice President the following year and is now in his fifth year serving as President. During his tenure, the club has continued to strengthen its programming and competitive presence while supporting the steady growth of croquet across Canada.
His primary competitive focus is golf croquet, the fastest-growing international code for the sport. In recent years, he has also developed a strong interest in Snake Croquet — a format that is gaining traction in Canada and internationally for its strategic depth and accessibility. Miles has competed in local tournaments and is actively working to elevate his game with an eye toward broader competitive opportunities.
Beyond administration and competition, Miles has been a consistent advocate for the sport’s visibility and growth. He writes and edits the North Toronto Croquet Club newsletter and regularly documents developments within the Canadian croquet community. His leadership reflects a commitment not only to strengthening his home club but also to elevating the profile of croquet nationally.
As Croquet Network continues to expand its global coverage, adding dedicated correspondents is a critical step toward providing timely, independent reporting from key regions. Canada is an important and growing segment of the international croquet landscape, and Miles will help increase visibility for tournaments, players, and developments across the country.
With established croquet nations in Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Spain and the United States receiving regular coverage, the addition of a Canadian voice further strengthens Croquet Network’s mission to serve as a truly global media platform for the sport.
