2023 Country Club of Jackson Croquet Invitational Offers Four Courts of Action

September 22, 2023

The Country Club of Jackson is delighted to invite all croquet players to the highly anticipated 2023 Country Club of Jackson Croquet Invitational. The format is American Six-Wicket (US Rules) and the USCA-sanctioned event is set to take place from October 19-22, 2023 and promises a thrilling and innovative experience for participants and spectators alike.

A Fresh Format for 2023

To enhance this year’s event, the Highlands Mallet Club (HMC) has graciously opened the doors to their two pristine synthetic-lawn courts nestled in the idyllic surroundings of Mike McRee's residence in Flora, Mississippi. This collaboration expands the tournament to four courts, accommodating more flights, inviting additional players and allows for the addition of doubles play.

The event expects to run with three to four flights and players with handicaps of 12 or lower are welcome. Flight assignments, designed to ensure balanced competition, will be at the discretion of the seasoned Tournament Director, Danny Huneycutt. Gameplay will unfold on two ¾ + size TifEagle Bermuda lawns at CCJ and two ¾ + synthetic lawns at HMC. Most games will be double-banked.

Five Days of Croquet Action

The tournament week kicks off on Wednesday, October 18th, with courts open for practice at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Welcome Reception at HMC in the late afternoon. Guests can anticipate an evening filled with fine wine, beer, and exquisite hor d'oeuvres, along with friendly games of lawn bowls and horseshoes. Croquet whites for attire or casual dress is encouraged for this relaxed gathering.

Thursday, October 19th, marks the beginning of doubles play, while the evening sees participants and guests converge at the Country Club of Jackson for cocktails and a buffet dinner, allowing for both casual attire and croquet whites.

Friday, October 20th, shifts the focus to singles play, with an open evening allowing participants to unwind and enjoy the charming atmosphere of the tournament's host city, Jackson.

Saturday, October 21st, brings the culmination of singles play, followed by a Tournament Banquet hosted at the Country Club of Jackson. Attendees are invited to embrace the country club casual dress code and savor a memorable evening of camaraderie.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, October 22nd, with Doubles and Singles Playoffs, the Finals and Awards ceremony, followed by CCJ's renowned brunch buffet, a fitting conclusion to a week of intense competition.

Participation Details

The player fee is $430 and includes the Welcome Reception, three lunches, the CCJ Brunch, the Thursday Cocktails and Buffet Dinner, Saturday's Tournament Banquet, courtside refreshments and awards.
