By Nancy Crouch - CBCC Director
Several years ago, a few of us at the club decided to start keeping track of how many students Macey White had taught. Macey began teaching croquet back in 2015, so this year marks eleven years on the court. In that time, he's earned his national-level certification to teach both Golf Croquet and American 6-Wicket.
Over the last eleven years, he's taught at USCA schools, visited clubs across the country, and become a weekly training fixture here at the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club, running our beginners' program, our weekly open house sessions, and his popular five-day Bootcamps.
It became apparent to us that the number of students Macey has instructed must be quite large, so we started adding up what he'd done and realized this past spring that he was approaching his milestone of 1,000 students. Yesterday, he got there. He taught the lesson that put him over the mark.
Macey has two Bootcamps coming up this fall. From September 3–7, he'll run a Golf Croquet Bootcamp at CBCC open to players of all skill levels. Then, from September 21–25, he'll hold an American 6-Wicket Bootcamp.
If you're interested in either Bootcamp, reach out to Macey directly at MaceyWhite@gmail.com.
We are proud and privileged to have someone as qualified and dedicated to the sport as Macey White as our club pro. Most of the training that Macey does for CBCC is done for free. His dedication to growing the sport is honorable, and we're fortunate to have him.
Macey White: Croquet Professional
The 1,000-student milestone is only one part of White’s contribution to the sport. Since beginning his croquet career in 2013, he has become one of the country’s most accomplished all-around players, instructors and tournament directors.
White began playing croquet in 2013 and quickly progressed from novice to international-level competitor. That experience helped shape his teaching philosophy, which emphasizes sound shot mechanics, decision-making and instruction tailored to each player's skill level.
He competes and teaches across American 6-Wicket, Golf Croquet, Association Croquet and 9-Wicket. His accomplishments include nine USCA 9-Wicket national titles, appearances for the United States in the 2019 and 2024 WCF Golf Croquet World Championships and competition in the 2018 and 2019 British Open Championships. He has also won four consecutive Florida Golf Croquet Regional Championships and the 2021 Golf Croquet Grand Prix.
White is one of only three U.S. players certified at the national level as both an instructor and referee in Golf Croquet, American 6-Wicket and Association Croquet. He has directed more than 100 tournaments, including regional and national championships and professional tour events.
He was also the founder, lead designer and lawn expert for the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club, which today features 24 championship courts and approximately 300 members and hosted the 2024 WCF Golf Croquet World Championship.
A retired Ph.D. chemist living in Hartfield, Virginia, White now spends much of his time teaching, competing and working to advance croquet in the United States.
White is also available for clinics, private lessons and tournament direction at clubs around the country. Learn more and sign up at www.cbcc.fun/visit-us/free-lessons-games/.
