The Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club is accepting registrations for the 2023 Spring Fling American 6-Wicket Croquet Tournament to be held from March 18 to May 9, 2023. This is a USCA-sanctioned event and players will earn handicap tracking points.
The tournament is open to anyone who wants to enter of any skill level. The cost is $10 for CBCC members and $20 for non-members. Entries will be accepted until midnight, March 16.

The USCA Handicap Committee has made a few minor changes to the handicap tracking point system. After a review of the current system, it was discovered that half handicaps have not been counted as full handicap steps. This primarily effects handicaps below 5 and the changes are mostly in losing points rather than gaining points.

The 2021 Southeast Regional American 6-Wicket Croquet Tournament was held June 10-13, 2021, at the beautiful Pinehurst Resort. The courts were in good shape and players of all flights came ready to play high-level croquet.
Cloudy skies prevailed through the tournament with occasional showers, but that did not disrupt play enough to get the tournament off of its heavy-play schedule. Forty-three players vied for championships in singles and doubles on four courts over four days. Play started each day at 8:00 a.m., and on some days, didn’t end until 7:00 p.m.

What a show! In my eight or so years of playing American 6-Wicket, I have never seen a player finish a game with a triple peel, and yet this past weekend, Matthew Essick finished three of his last four games with a triple. In the semi-final match against Zack Watson, Matthew won both games by scoring all of the hoops with his second ball while peeling (scoring his partner ball) through the last three hoops and then pegging both balls out on the center stake winning 26tp-0 and 26tp-13. Essick did the same in one of his games in the finals against current American 6-Wicket National Champion, Randy Cardo, winning 26tp-5 and 26-0.
