MCA Series Tour Storms Through Tulsa

May 29, 2025

GEORGE Cochran Goes 8-0 in the Pro Division

Round two of the 2025 MCA Series Tour featured four days of American Six Wicket croquet played over Memorial Day Weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The 2025 Indian Territory Open (ITO) was hosted by the Tulsa Croquet Club and the event featured the opening of the new clubhouse at the four-court facility in LaFortune Park.

In addition to the new clubhouse, the event also saw fast lawn speeds that would have featured through the weekend, but overnight and rains on Friday, Saturday and Sunday kept the courts soggy for the mornings each day.

Championship (PRO) Finalists: Cochran and Spradling

On the court, George Cochran from the Red Stick Croquet Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, dominated the Championship Flight (PRO) with a perfect 8-0 record and five pegouts. Scott Spradling from the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, took second place in the event and had a small opening in the final when Cochran was unable to get his second break going. Spradling wasn’t able to finish his trip around, and ultimately, Cochran took a 22-8 win.

For the Series Tour Pro points race, Cochran shot up to third place in the standings, while Ron Millican’s appearance in the semifinals allowed him to move into second position on the list. Dylan Goodwin also made the semifinals to retain the top spot. Notably, Goodwin and Greg Clouse are MCA Board members and not eligible for Series Tour prize purse, so Millican is currently in the top cash prize position, followed by Cochran and Scott Spradling (fifth place). Goodwin and Clouse are still in the points race and eligible to win the Series Tour traveling trophy.

FIRST FLIGHT (GOLD) CHAMPION STEVE FISHER IN BLOCK PLAY

First Flight (GOLD) saw a little more drama as Steve Fisher of the Tulsa Croquet Club moved through the first round with a win over Jodi Adams (Kactus Creek Croquet Club) to play #1 seed Peter Sherer of the Derby City Croquet Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Sherer was 5-0 in block play, but Fisher pulled off the upset to advance to the title game. There he found #2 seed Deborah Millican (Kactus Creek Croquet Club), who was 4-1 in block play with one pegout.

Fisher, who was playing in his first American Six Wicket Singles game, kept the streak going and went on to claim the title with a 21-18 win in the final despite a late surge by Millican.

Series Tour Information

For the Series Tour Gold Standings, Millican now leads the standings, followed by Matt Griffith in second position and Steve Fisher in third place. Like the Pro Series, the Gold division pays out to the top three positions

Additionally, the Series Tour also includes a Club Championship competition across all divisions and at the overall level. Official MCA clubs earn points based on club members who participate in Series Tour events. After round two, the Kactus Creek Croquet Club extended its lead in the overall race with 165 points versus 73 points for the Kansas City Croquet Club. Kactus Creek also extends its lead in the Pro division and Gold Division competitions as well. There was no Silver (Second Flight) division at the ITO event, so the Kansas City Croquet Club still leads as the only club with players registering points in the division.

The ITO also had a doubles competition and that division saw Goodwin (Kansas City Croquet Club) and Jon Spaulding (Tulsa Croquet Club) team up to get a 16-14 win over Cochran and Art Parsells (Tulsa Croquet Club) to claim the Championship Flight title. It was the first win in American Six Wicket play at the Championship level for both players.

Next Up

The 2025 MCA Series Tour continues July 10-12 with the U.S. Golf Croquet Classic in Denver, Colorado — marking both the Tour’s first-ever stop in Colorado and its debut Golf Croquet event. Hosted by the Denver Croquet Club, the tournament will introduce a new code to the Series Tour while offering players and clubs a fresh opportunity to earn critical points in all of the Series races.
