Croquet England Launches Search for First-Ever CEO

Croquet England, the national governing body for the sport of croquet in England, is making history with the announcement of its first-ever paid Chief Executive Officer role. This key appointment marks a transformative step for the organization, which for over a century has been led by volunteers. The incoming CEO will play a pivotal role in implementing Croquet England’s new strategy focused on growth, inclusivity, and sustainability.

With over 10,000 members across more than 200 clubs, and many more casual players enjoying the game in informal settings, croquet in England is experiencing a revival. From local leagues to international competitions, the sport’s competitive scene thrives. In 2023, Croquet England became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), reinforcing its mission to promote healthy recreation and support amateur sport for public benefit.

Position Overview

The CEO will work four or five days per week with a pro-rata salary of £60,000, operating primarily remotely with regular travel and a recurring presence at the Croquet England head office in Cheltenham. The new leader will report directly to the Chair of Trustees and will coordinate closely with staff, directors, and an expansive volunteer network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading strategic delivery across all organizational functions

  • Fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and good governance

  • Advocating for croquet as a lifelong sport accessible to all

  • Overseeing operations, including staff management, communications, and partnerships

  • Collaborating with committee chairs covering areas such as tournaments, coaching, and international relations

This is a hands-on, high-impact role with national reach and visibility. Evening and weekend meetings will be part of the role, accommodating the volunteer-based governance structure.

Interested candidates should submit a CV and a cover letter outlining their interest and qualifications by July 30, 2025. For details on applying, see the full job posting from Croquet England.
