Former London Youth Games leader brings decades of sports and inclusion experience to the role
Croquet England has announced the appointment of Andy Dalby-Welsh as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1. Dalby-Welsh brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across sport, disability inclusion, and youth development to the organization.
Samir Patel, Chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, saying, “Andy has led organisations across the sport, disability, and youth development sectors for over twenty years, and I’m excited that he will be bringing this experience and enthusiasm to Croquet England.”
Dalby-Welsh most recently served as CEO of the London Youth Games, where he developed and implemented a five-year strategy that united local authorities, funders, volunteers, and national partners. His work evolved the organization’s governance structure while expanding participation and diversifying income sources.
Before that, as Deputy CEO of Activity Alliance—the national charity focused on increasing physical activity among disabled people—Dalby-Welsh oversaw governance reform within its federated structure and secured over £2 million in sustained funding from Sport England.
“I am very excited to be joining Croquet England,” said Dalby-Welsh. “Having played croquet in the garden with my family when growing up, I’ve seen the intergenerational benefit the sport can bring. The best players rely on great technical and tactical skills to succeed at every level, while all players—especially those playing for fun—benefit from friendships and improved physical and mental wellbeing. I look forward to demonstrating how croquet can improve the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds.”
Dalby-Welsh, who is visually impaired, has also represented England in blind cricket. Croquet England noted that he impressed the hiring panel with his energy, vision, and ideas for expanding participation in the sport. He lives in Brighton with his wife and two daughters and looks forward to reconnecting with the game at the nearby Sussex County Croquet Club.
