Reigning world champions confirm six-player roster as the MacRobertson Shield returns to English soil, with matches broadcast live from four historic clubs
England has officially named its squad for the 2026 MacRobertson Shield, the sport’s premier international team championship, set to take place on home turf next summer. The announcement came via Croquet England, with Chair of Selectors Chris Clarke confirming the six players chosen to defend the nation’s world title.
The team features a powerhouse lineup: Mark Avery, Jamie Burch, James Death, Robert Fulford, Jack Good and Samir Patel. England enters the event as defending champions and once again presents a formidable side. Avery recently finished runner-up at the World Singles Championship, Death currently holds the European title and Burch sits at No. 2 in the world rankings, underscoring the strength and balance of the squad.
The team’s preparation has drawn praise from sponsor Alliance Witan, whose support continues into 2026. Mark Atkinson, Investor Relations Manager for the company, noted the dedication shown by the players during winter training sessions at The Hurlingham Club.
The 2026 MacRobertson Shield will feature England, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, each fielding six-player teams in a demanding three-test series held over several weeks. Play will be staged across four renowned English venues: The Hurlingham Club, Roehampton Club, Sussex County Croquet Club and Surbiton Croquet Club, with full livestream coverage planned.
Croquet England CEO Andy Dalby-Welsh also extended his congratulations to the selected players, speaking to the honor of international representation. “As someone who has been fortunate enough to compete in multiple series, I know the pride that comes with wearing national colors. We are grateful to Alliance Witan for enhancing the team’s experience. I’m very much looking forward to supporting them this summer.”
